The gateway to Tor
Onion. To is a web application that will forward your web request to the Tor network. Through this web application you can fetch websites from within the Tor network and interact with them without installing the Tor software on your computer.
How to reach hidden websites
Tor website uses the top-level domain suffix .onion, just like a regular website uses .com or .net. Usually a .onion-address can not be reached unless you have installed Tor and is using a specifically configured browser. But by simply appending .to at the end of an .onion-address, the request will be sent through Onion. To and into the Tor network. For example, http://eqt5g4fuenphqinx.onion becomes http://eqt5g4fuenphqinx.onion.to.
Why does hidden websites exist
A Hidden Service is a server which location is protected and obscured by the Tor Network. It allows anyone to publish information without fear of physical violence from someone who wants to shut up and censor them. It is close to a perfect form of freedom of speech; one of the greatest aids against corruption in the modern society.
